 The Vollman Prone Positioner was developed to help facilitate the turning and positioning of critically ill patients prone. The prone position has been shown to improve pulmonary oxygenation of patients with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). The device was designed, developed and tested by Kathleen Vollman, a critical care nurse. Hill-Rom, an international company that manufactures hospital beds, produces and markets the frame.
